Have you ever experienced something so tragic that it makes you sad just thinking about it? Well, I have. I know what it’s like to be in a head on collision.
I don’t remember how old I was when it happened but I was pretty young. We were on our way to back to school night for my catholic school. I was in the front seat of my dad’s car, he was driving the car obviously and my sister was sitting in the back. I really don’t remember much leading up to the incident. All that I remember is waking up in the middle of an intersection in Oxnard. Our car was so messed up that we had to get a new one.
When I woke up, I thought the whole thing was just a bad dream. I broke my left collarbone and got a concussion. My sister was crawling back onto her seat because she broke both of her legs and also her wrist. My dad was sitting on the kerb while calling an ambulance. His lungs were crushed, his sternum broke in half, and he got a minor stroke which caused him to lose some of his memory. The man that was driving the other car did not get injured at all though. Next thing you know, I’m in the hospital with my sister and my dad. My dad was in a different room.
I got out of the hospital sooner than my sister and dad because I wasn’t hurt that bad. After a few days of being back at school, I went to visit my sister. She was feeling a little better so we went to visit my dad on a different floor of the hospital. This was before he got sent to a different hospital because of his medical needs. We had to put masks on before entering my dads room. It was hard for me to look at him in the condition he was in because he was on so many painkillers and drugs. I am just glad that he and my sister are okay. My sister got out of the hospital first, then a short time after that my dad got out also.
Everything started falling apart after that incident.A good change that happened was that my dad stopped smoking. Another thing that happened was that my dad lost 50 pounds and my sister lost weight also. My dad almost died in the hospital and everyone was doing everything in their power to recover him including giving him a tracheotomy. My mom left my dad and we got 2 new houses after that.
So this car crash really changed my life. I do sometimes wonder what it would be like if none of this had ever happened. Tis was the most traumatic event that has ever happened to me. I am so lucky that everyone is recovered today.
